Description :
The game storyline is based on the pretext that a male/female individual wishes to obtain a job in the Kaoru's Cake House bakery and ultimately learn the crafts of making a great cake for his/her lover. The player will be assisted by the cast of the comic.

The pixel art-style graphics in KCH is done very well, which makes the game visually appealing.

Also, the developer made clever use of pastel colours in the pixels to give the entire setting a sweet and romantic flavour.

Keep them happy

Much like Diner Dash, you also play as a server in KCH, though you can actually choose your gender in the latter.

Let's say you choose to play as a waitress. You will be given a sales target at the start of each day/level (in game time, of course).

To generate sales, you need to make sure customers are happy so they'll tip more with their orders.

The moment customers are seated, you must pass them the menu, take their order, select the right cake to bake, serve the cake and collect money when they are done.

You can serve up to three different types of cakes, each represented by keys at the top row of a mobile phone's keypad.

The middle row allows you to put a cake up for display, stand in the middle of the shop or unload dirty dishes onto the sink.

The bottom row is represents three tables – each table will accommodate two patrons.

When customers leave, they will also leave behind dirty dishes, which you must take to the sink else the next customer will complain.

In KCH, you only have two hands that can carry a maximum of two items (plates of cakes or dirty dishes) at any one time.

Basically, the fun is in figuring out how to coordinate your key presses so that you are able to do more in a lesser amount of time to generate tips or sales.

A customer tips according to how satisfied they are with your service.

Satisfaction levels are represented by hearts above the heads of each customer – the higher the number of hearts, the more happy a customer.

Different types of customers will have different patience levels, which determines how fast their satisfaction levels will drop.

For instance, young girls are generally more impatient than grandmothers, so you will need to make haste when attending the former group (the brats!).

If you keep a customer waiting for too long, satisfaction level drops and they will be more stingy with their dough.

Worse, if a customer actually walks out of the shop in a huff, money will be deducted from your total sales that day.

So, to get the most out of a customer, you need to serve him or her as quickly as possible, which may not be easy to do if you need to attend to many other customers.

Thankfully, you can also get bonus tips when you execute "combo" moves – such as serving the needs of two customers at the same table in one go.

Extra features

As you advance, you unlock other features in the game, such as the images and profiles of the four "cute dudes" in KCH – who, by the way, go by the names Denny, Bob, Izz and Wing.

However, apart from having their names mentioned at the beginning of the storyline, these characters are pretty much unrelated to the game.

In case you're wondering why they're even in the game, well, it is because KCH is actually based on a locally published comic book called – you guessed it, Kaoru's Cake House.

Another feature you can unlock is a bonus mini-game, where you are challenged to gobble down as many cakes as you can as they are flung at your direction.

In addition, there is also a feature that you can use to send a copy of the game to another mobile phone, though you would be required to fork out another RM8 for the SMS request.

Honestly, there's not much to shout about some of the bonus features – but I suppose it's better than nothing.

After winning the game by completing your training, you can actually bake and send a "cake" via MMS to impress someone special.

You can choose from four different cakes, most of which have an affectionate message inscribed.

Conclusion

Overall, KCH is less complicated to play than Diner Dash, but this acceptable since mobile games should never be encumbered with too many features.

That being said, I do think that KCH is a tad too easy to play, which could be a good thing for casual gamers.

Unfortunately, this means the game can be finished in an hour or so when played continuously without failing a single level.

But short as the experience may seem, KCH does provide an enjoyable ride all the way through.

Pros: Fun; easy to pick up; appealing graphics

Cons: Lack of compelling features; play time is too short.
