    Mobile GMaps v1.33.01 J2ME

    [IMG]

    GOOGLE MAPS AND OTHERS AT YOUR FINGERS...

    Mobile GMaps is a FREE application that displays Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, Windows Live Local (MSN Virtual Earth) and Ask.com Maps and satellite imagery on Symbian and Java J2ME-enabled mobile phones, PDAs and other devices.

    MGMaps can connect to a GPS receiver over bluetooth or use internal GPS features on some phones in order to automatically display the map for your current position.

    NEW IN v1.33.01 VERSION
    • The new version includes support for multiple languages. There are a few translations already included, but I'm still looking for translators into other languages. If you wish to help, see the forum to learn how to translate MGMaps messages.
    • You can now track online the position reported by your GPS. To do that, sign up on GMap-Track.com, then go to Settings/GPS/Web Tracking in MGMaps, check the enable checkbox and enter your username and tracking ID in the form. You can only see your latest position on www.GMap-Track.com (and you need to manually refresh the map), but more features including "friends" and saving tracks will be added in the following days.
    • The newest MGMaps displays the latest satellite imagery updates from Google.
    • The zoom level is now counted differently to be in concordance with the zoom level as counted by Google Maps, WikiMapia and other applications. Specifically, newZoomLevel = 17-oldZoomLevel.
    • The new version of MGMaps includes some bug fixes for Search and displaying places.
    [IMG]

    Here are some key features of the application:
    • GPS connectivity: connect to a GPS device over bluetooth or use the internal GPS to view maps or aerial imagery for your current location. Enable GPS synchronization to continuously move the map as you move around, view your position, speed and heading.
    • Maps and satellite imagery: view various types of maps and aerial images, zoom in and out, mark favorite places with map pushpins.
    • Search for places or businesses, view the results including addresses and phone numbers. Do you want to call any of them? You can do that directly from Mobile GMaps!
    • Bookmarks: store your favorite places or search results to jump quickly to any of them.
    • Mobile WikiMapia:New! WikiMapia.org is a mashup that allows users to add tags and annotate locations displayed on Google Maps. They already have over 1 million places, now you can view them on your cellphone using MGMaps!
    • View KML files:New! view any .kml file available online containing Google Earth places by simply entering its web address. Compressed files (.kmz) are also supported.
    • Subway maps: view subway maps for New York, London, Berlin, Washington DC, Boston.
    • Connectivity with Navizon: use MGMaps together with Navizon in order to support GPS functionality over bluetooth on older Symbian S60 phones and to enable positioning features without a GPS device.

    STARTUP
    1. Start the GPS device
    2. Start the application, select the GPS device (only at the first run)
    3. the program works automatically, records each cell you are passing by
    3. export the records in a text file using the 'Export' command,
    MCC, MNC, Cell ID, Latitude, Longitude, signal strength, LAC,
    name of cell are saved in a tabulator delimited text file.

    DISPLAY * *crossed: GPS is not connected
    rotating: GPS connected, but position is not accurate yet
    rotating slowly: valid position from GPS device.

    Displays position in WSG 84 format, the name (if defined) or the ID of the currenct network cell with the signal strength in dBm, the current speed and the number of cells recorded in database.

    Animation: estimates and visualizes the neighbourhood of the current position using the distances between the center of the passed cells, from tree (large distances) to skyscrapers (small distances).

    Bar: visualize the efficiency for collecting (for the last 20 cells):
    - dark grey: new cells in database;
    - light grey: modified cells;
    - no fill: unmodified cells.

    IMPORT FILE
    You can import a previously exported file into the database. Only detected database files will be displayer. You will be offered to clear the existing database first, otherwise database will be merged with the imported content.

    UPLOAD TO SERVER
    Initiates a connection to our server storing thousands of the positions of network cells, and sends the modified records since the last upload to us. Server sends back the number of new and modified cells in database on server. Please help us to maintain and enhance our database. This database is available for registered users (upon request).

    HOW DOES IT WORK
    The application continuously monitors changes in cell ID and signal strength, and stores the 2 farthest positions with the highest signal strength for each cell. When exported, these positions are averaged to make the centre of the cell.

    FILE FORMAT
    The header should be the same for each file, then each cell is in one row:

    MCC: mobile country code (216 means Hungary)
    Cell: cell ID
    LAC: location area code
    Signal: signal strength in -dBm
    Latitude/longitude: 4730.4950N equals to 47 degrees and 30.4950 minutes = 47 degrees,
    30 minutes and 0.4950*60 = 29 seconds.
    NAME: the name of the cell (if you have specified it).
    Network: 0 (unknown), 1 (unregistered), 2 (GSM/GPRS or DCS1800), 3 (AMPS), 4 (CDMA IS-95), 5 (CDMA 2000), 6 (WCDMA), 7 (TD-CDMA) - not all of these types are used.

    With GPSMap, you can use your own maps to display your position, using a Bluetooth-capable GPS receiver.

    Functions:
    - displays location on a map or displays latitude/longitude;
    - add, remove maps;
    - calibrate maps manually or importing from OziExplorer;
    - phone standby mode can be switched off;
    - GPS device identifier may be stored (no need to set it up);
    - connection to the GPS device is restored automatically.

    Requirements for maps:
    - in GIF or JPG format;
    - do not use too large maps, e.g. above 1000x1000 pixel, because the loading of the images will be slowed down, use several maps if large are should be covered;
    - North should be upward on the map.

    How to install a map:
    - copy the map to the phone (e.g. with PcSuite);
    - start GPSMap, select Options/Maps, select Options/Add map...
    - select one or more files or directories (for directiories, all applicable files in the directories will be added to the list) using the joy, then press OK;
    - the map will be listed, with a red X mark, which means that is not calibrated yet, and it may not be used until it is calibrated.

    How to calibrate a map:
    For calibrating a map, you have to go to at least two different places on the map by foot, by car, by bus, etc., with the GPS device and your phone. Both times, you have to locate your position on the map by selecting Options/View and calib. at the list of the maps. In this view, you can use the joystick to move the map in large steps, or press the ABC button or with the joystick to move smoothly. Press 'I am here' to record your positon (a red dot will show it on the map). After you have set at least two places, the red X mark at the list of the maps will be a green sign.
    You can calibrate a map on your PC with OziExplorer, if you know the coordinates of at least two points on the map.

    How to calibrate a map on a PC using OziExplorer
    Download OziExplorer (http://www.oziexplorer.com), and start the TRIAL version (if you do not have a full version, of course). Select "File/Load and calibrate map image", and add at least two points: select Point 1 on the tab on the right, select the position on the image, then enter the coordinates of that point. Repeat this with another point as Point 2. Please use points far away from each other, e.g. one in the left bottom part of the image, one in the top right part of the image. Select save, then exit.

    How to install a map calibrated with OziExplorer:
    - copy the map (*.gif or *.jpg) and the calibration file (*.map) to the phone (e.g. with PcSuite, in the same directory);
    - start GPSMap, select Options/Maps, select Options/Add map...
    - navigate through the directory structure pressing the joy left or right, select one or more files (the icon for maps with calibration files will be "OZI") or directories (for directiories, all applicable files in the directories will be added to the list) using the joy, then press OK;
    - the map will be listed, with a green sign, which means that it is calibrated.

    How to display your position using a map:
    After calibrating a map, you can use it to display your position. Go to Options/Setup, and set Diplay to the name of the map, or set it to 'Automatic'. In automatic mode, always the map available for the current position will be displayed.

    Valid/invalid GPS position
    The information received from the GPS device may be valid or not (depending on the number of satellites). In text mode, valid information is displayed in blue, invalid in red. When displaying a map, a blinking red dot will mean that the information is not valid, or the GPS receiver is not connected.

    Settings
    Display: text, automatic or a selected map (only calibrated maps are listed). In text mode, latitude, longitude, speed, course, altitude is listed. In automatic mode, always the map available for the current position will be displayed, otherwise it shows that there isn't any available map. When a map is selected, positions outside the maps will be simply shown using a blank screen with the red dot in the center.
    Always on: prevent the phone from going into standby mode (to switch off the screen).

    GPS devices
    Any Bluetooth-capable device is supported, however, the program is tested with: Pharos BT-100, Fortuna GPSmart, Rikaline BT.
