Inca Quest

Inca Quest is a ball shooting and matching game which draws much from Puzzle Bobble. The main difference in the games is that magical combos can be formed. 'Magical' is a very good word to describe the phenomenom and it takes a while to figure out the secret. From what I can gather, if you have 3 balls of the same colour that fall down (without being matched), they can magically rise and smash into a grouping of like coloured balls. A little tutorial of this in action would have been greatly appreciated as it took me many attempts to figure out the intricacies of the system.
Inca Quest comes with 3 game modes, Puzzle, Adventure and Survival. Usually a couple of these game modes are duds and are included to give the game some sort of weight. Not so here, each mode provides a serious challenge in terms of gameplay and length. Inca Quest and Midnight Casino are starting to show what mobile games are capable of accomplishing.
Naturally they are all based around the same basic concept but each has their own little variations. In Puzzle mode you are only given a set number of balls (usually between 2-4 balls) with which to clear the entire screen. Puzzle mode is a good way to learn the basics of the game and how the magical combos and other power ups can work. In total there are 100 levels in Puzzle mode. There is no time limit in Puzzle mode but once you have figured out the tactics, the levels are only a few seconds play but some are devilishly tricky to plan. To make things easier, you are provided with a laser pointer to show where exactly your ball will land. After you complete a level you are given an extra life. However, if you use up all the balls and fail to clear the screen, a life will be lost. To prevent you getting really stuck, if you fail twice on a level, a hints options becomes available but this will also steal a life away from you. A cheeky way to combat this is to just go back to the first few levels and earn some easy lives.
Adventure mode takes the premise a bit further. For a start there's at least 100 more levels and you can collect gold and buy power ups after every 10 levels. The power ups can include bombs, pointers, fireballs and so on. The levels are pretty short in this mode but you do have a mountain to climb by the time you get to the end. It wont be long before you are introduced to the Shamen. He has a habit of sending up bad magic balls to scupper your chances. These can turn to stone or even worse, spread like a herpes and render your balls useless.
For a real challenge, give Survival a go. There are less levels in this (only 6) but you will probably play each one 100 times - it is that difficult. In this mode you have to survive the game for a full 3 minutes before the next level/temple is unlocked. As you go higher up, the speed increases and so does the number attacks by the Shamen. While the other modes are pretty easy to complete (you just have to play 200 levels!), Survival mode is a real challenge and the last couple of levels took a solid 3 days to complete.
